Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Dominican Sisters of the Roman Congregation – USA province.  Here you will find information about the sisters, their ministries and the various activities that are going on in the province.

The Dominican Sisters of the Roman Congregation is an international group of active vowed religious women with over 425 members in 11 countries and on 4 continents.

In the United States the sisters are in Lewiston and Sabattus, Maine, Staten Island New York, Chicago  Illinois, Phoenix and Klagetoh, Arizona.   The sisters are committed to living the Dominican values of Prayer, Community Life, Study and Ministry.  Important in the sisters’ daily lives is the Dominican motto:  TO PREACH, TO BLESS, TO TEACH.  The primary ministry of all the sisters is “Preaching” whether they are in active ministry or in retirement.  This “Preaching” takes many forms:  education on all levels, social work, counseling, advocacy for the poor and needy, peace/justice and care of the earth, pastoral care of the sick, parish work, mission work on the Navajo Reservation, liturgy and music, prayer and a variety of volunteer work wherever needed.

Following Dominic’s way, we adopt the essential means he left us. We try to lead a communal life in cooperation with one another, and to live out our profession of the evangelical counsels loyally; we draw strength from personal prayer and heartfelt common celebrations of the liturgy; we study resolutely, looking for the truth in all things. » (Excerpts from the Constitutions)

Daughters of our time, we affirm that diversity, welcomed in an attitude of listening and openness, is a source of enrichment and creativity, and that it allows us to widen our perspective, to better understand reality, and to act out of a more profound discernment.

Our Dominican vocation urges us to discover the Truth in the « other », in the «different ». We pray that the breath of the Spirit, which brings us to live out this communion in diversity, will fill the entire congregation. (From the Acts of the General Chapter of 2005)
